NAT'S XMAS SPECIAL

As Tis is the season to be jolly and giving my Xmas Special for the whole week is the Thulukan Chronicles by Maer Wilson!

Here's a peak at all of them!

BOOK 1

Most of Thulu and La Fi's clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. So, a job finding relics for an ancient daemon should be simple.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Stunning humanity with their existence, portals to other worlds begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi's search becomes personal. The couple will need powerful allies in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that's what grateful dead, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they're nothing like your mother's fairy tales.

BOOK 2

“Ghost Memory” is the first prequel novelette in The Thulukan Chronicles and was published several months after Relics.

La Fi is not having a normal day. She broke someone’s nose, embarrassed her fiancĂ©, Thulu, and now a dead guy is on her doorstep. Although seeing the dead is not unusual for the young medium, since she and Thulu regularly deal with the supernatural. Thulu can find anything that’s lost and the amnesiac ghost is missing money, along with his memory.

Peter Swanson used to stash money throughout his San Francisco home. Now he can’t remember his hiding places, and his aging partner needs the money. That’s not normally a problem for Thulu, but some of the money is missing from the house. Thulu and La Fi must broaden the search for cash long gone, and that could prove tricky in more ways than one.

“Ghost Memory” is A Thulukan Chronicles Story set in the Relics universe. Bonus Material includes Chapter 1 from the novel Relics, Book 1 of The Thulukan Chronicles.

BOOK 3

“Unwanted Ghost” is the second prequel novelette in The Thulukan Chronicles. It was published several months after “Ghost Memory,” the first of the stories.

Thulu & La Fi have inherited an old, furnished Victorian. What they weren’t expecting was that the furnishings included a ghost.

Usually the Thulukans are happy to take on supernatural clients for their detective agency. But there’s something about Darla Redding that bothers La Fi – and with good reason. They discover that Darla has a much darker past than hinted at by her “normal” life. She’s definitely not a ghost they want haunting them. So, if they want to be rid of their unwelcome house ghost, Thulu and La Fi need to solve her murder.

“Unwanted Ghost” is the second prequel novelette to Relics in “The Thulukans Chronicles.”

BOOK 4

For supernatural detectives Thulu and La Fi, “normal” is a relative term. La Fi is a medium, Thulu is a finder, and their usual clients are already dead.

But when their friend Reo is shot, and a group of stranded angels show up at their house for help to find a missing child, things are striking too close to home.

And now the portals that let the magical races return to Earth have started opening on their own.

With trips off-world, a kidnapped psychic and changes to their own abilities, Thulu and La Fi are hit with a lot more than they usually handle. Of course, their magical friends are there to help, but even they may not be enough to save an increasingly unstable Earth.

Portals is the sequel to Relics and is Book 2 in The Thulukan Chronicles.

About the author

L. Chapman was born in and continues to live in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. She has spent most of her life helping at one time, a DJ for a special needs club. Blending her love of helping others and her love of children, L dreams to one day own and operate a childcare nursery that will help mainstream special needs children with others.

In the rare times that L. is not working to help others or maniacally writing, she enjoys making a mess of things while creating beautifully detailed greeting cards. She spends time relaxing with family, friends, and good books. L. loves to travel and has been to many places in the United Kingdom; her favorite places all involve the ocean. She hopes to one day share a kiss with her happily-ever-after in the romantic shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Should she ever get over her fear of flying, those kisses may be shared in the shadows of the Egyptian Pyramids.

Ever the fussy eater, L. has never once tasted peanut butter, and she despises coffee. If you should feel the need to bribe her, it is suggested that you bring chocolate, as that is one of her know weaknesses.

Excerpts

I finish preparing dinner, shower, and paint my nails a red colour all before Rich returns from work. For the first time in

ages, I even manage to shave everywhere without cutting myself. My biggest fear is just before the wedding I’m going to cut my legs while shaving. I have thought of waxing, but I don’t think I can cope with the pain. I know people say that pain is just part of looking beautiful, but I’m not so sure about that one. I made a speech prior to booking the wedding date that there would be no sex the week before we get married. I want our wedding night to be special.

Now, I think I will be struggling with this decision. I plan to make sure I get plenty before our wedding week begins. I am wearing Rich’s favourite little black halter dress that barely covers my bum and shows just enough of my cheeks to drive him wild. He loves it. I have been a little bit naughty.

---

His lips meet mine, his chest pushes against my breasts, and I can feel his heat. His lips slip from mine, remaining in close

proximity.

“Stairs or lift?” He whispers. I turn my head and gasp as he pulls my earlobe gently between his teeth.

“Lift. I don’t think I can go much farth...”

His lips find mine again before I’m able to finish what I was trying to say.

I hear the “ping” of the lift as Warren takes hold of my hand and walks me into it.

I watch him press the up button then lean against the wall with one knee bent and his foot on the wall.

“You’re amazing to watch,” he says.

“Me?” I question as I stand on the other side of the lift.

“Yes, you,” he says. He walks towards me, pulling me in tight.

SET THE STAGE FOR PORTALS

Readers, bloggers and friends...This is your portal to PORTALS by Maer Wilson!! The stage is set. The audience is waiting in anticipation.

LIGHTS!! CAMERA!!! ACTION!!!

THE NARRATOR READS THE SYNOPSIS AS THE PICTURE FILLS THE BACK SCREEN

MAER WILSON ENTERS TO AN ALMOST BARE STAGE IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN

There is only one bright spot of light shining on an old wooden stool placed down center stage. A chip in the paint shows that it’s gone through many colors before its current glossy black. She approaches the stool and sits in the pool of light, facing an audience that might or might not be there. The three spotlights are too bright to tell, but the house doesn’t feel empty. She begins…

"It started as a lark. I had these characters who had sprung to life just from discovering their names. Thulu and La Fi. I knew who they were, where they had been and a vague idea of where they were going. I envisioned a two-book series. Well, if you can call two books a series, anyway. It would be about these paranormal detectives and their various cases.
The first book was written in five weeks and had a cliffhanger ending. I sent it out into the world of agents. What I got back was nothing - lots of unanswered queries.
Another writer was blunt when I asked for help with my query letter. After numerous versions, he told me the problem with my query was my book. That cliffhanger ending I loved so much? It meant the book was pretty much doomed from the get-go as I was an unknown writer.

So, I took the second half of the book and threw it out. Yep, threw out the whole second half. I reorganized the first half and took the book in a slightly different direction, filling in what had originally been planned for Book 2.
Except that slight directional change opened up whole new paths! I discovered I wasn’t just writing about Thulu and La Fi’s cases. Nope, I was writing about what happens when magic returns to Earth as seen through their eyes. And that, my friends? That was a whole other ball game!
My two books became three. At least. With several short story prequels. And that second version? That was so much better.
Okay, so I still failed at the agent part, but I had already decided that going the trade route probably wasn’t going to work for me anyway. So, I wasn’t disappointed. I was relieved. And ready to try my new plan of action.
I didn’t want to put the years it takes to go the trade route. I wanted much, much faster. Small presses touted their abilities to get books published much faster and so I went that route. Relics was released May, 2013.
In the meantime, the characters kept telling me what came next and I knew I needed to get the rest of the story done. Portals, Book 2 of The Thulukan Chronicles is out now.
There are also two novelettes out in the series, with a third coming in spring of 2014. Oh, and I’m writing Book 3 which will also be released in 2014.
I guess I’ll always be grateful to that author for his honesty. I ended up with something so much more fun and interesting.
And my little “lark”? Well, that’s turned into a passion that seems to not let up. I have several more books planned. I’m writing a Biography/Memoir, a standalone Historical Fantasy and I have a Sci Fi series on the back burner.
Who knew, right? It just goes to show you that you never know what life is going to toss at you. And to take those ideas – no matter how crazy they might seem – and run with them.
I’m glad I did!"

A CHIOR ENTERS AND SINGS HER PRAISES

Praise for Portals

"Juggling angels, psychics, and a myriad of other magical folk (and their problems), Thulu and La Fi return in Portals to find a kidnapping victim, and maybe just save the universe as a side job. Maer Wilson does a beautiful job of painting their world, weaving a mystery, and sprinkling on a touch of humor in her sophomore fantasy. Such a fun escape!" —LynDee Walker, bestselling author of the Headlines in High Heels Mysteries.

Praise for Relics

"'Relics' is a powerful read which will challenge long-held perceptions of good vs. evil and Light vs. Dark well after the book is finished." Diane M. Haynes, author of Rift Healer, YA finalist in the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence.
"In Relics, author Maer Wilson takes everything you think you know about the creatures of the fantasy world and twists it around to create a unique and engaging story." Constance Philips, author of Resurrecting Harry and Fairyproof.

That night Parker had popped in to wake us at two in the morning to tell us our best friend, Reo, had been shot. The young ghost was distraught and panicked.
“They're on the back porch! You have to go help.”
“Where is he?” I asked groggily, as I jumped out of bed.
Thulu was instantly awake beside me, although he didn’t seem any more alert than I did.
“Back porch.” Parker enunciated each word in slight exasperation. “Go, please!”
Thulu looked at me, and I told him what Parker had said. Thulu can read lips, but even with a night light the room was too dark.
Thulu threw off the sheet and we both ran from the room. I was briefly glad we’d been wearing PJs.
Heart pounding, I took a few precious seconds to check on our three year old son, Carter. His night light showed him blissfully unaware of anything. Whatever happy dreams he was having made him smile slightly in his sleep. I sighed in relief that he wasn’t having another of his nightmares.
Downstairs, Thulu had turned on the kitchen and porch lights. In spite of the panic moments before, none of the three people on the porch seemed frantic when I joined them.
Thulu looked relieved, Reo was on the floor, but seemed stoic, and Sloane knelt beside him, brow furrowed only slightly in concentration as he dealt with the wound.
My heart rate slowed down and my own fear started to slowly dissipate. My heart gradually dropped from my throat back to its accustomed place in my chest. Still my hands were shaking, and I felt the slight chill from outside. The porch was screened in, and the late August day had been hot, but the night brought a cool breeze that made its way along my arms.
The scent of flowers from the backyard didn’t quite mask the smell of the blood that pooled on the porch floor around Reo. Sloane, his partner and an elf, had already removed Reo’s jacket and shirt. A bullet lay on the floor, and I could see the shoulder wound was already healing and closing up. In a few moments, only the blood would remain as evidence that he’d been shot.
Reo's face was white. The strain showed around his brown eyes and his handsome face had the sheen of sweat on it. His short brown hair that was usually spiked, lay damp and flat against his head, but he gave me a shaky smile.
“Bastard ruined my favorite jacket.”

NORTHERN GATE

On December 6, 2013 the first of four volumes of The Edelyn Legacy released on Amazon.

The Northern Gate

by J.C. Clarke

Genre: Fantasy/Romance
Add it on Goodreads HERE

Summary:

According to the Bible, God created the world in seven days, but what if the beginning happened before Humankind documented it for posterity?

Humans didn’t see everything clearly, because they didn’t understand. They turned away in fear, forgot the beings that had come to Earth and, over time, the Seraphim became nothing but a legend, a bedtime story. Corruption and greed, bred from hatred and evil, spread across the face of the earth as Humans evolved and developed. It was in this filth, and amongst the seven deadly sins, that Tabitha Morgan was born and kept alive, hidden in plain sight from the darkness.

For seventeen years, Tabitha thrived under her grandmother’s guardianship, living a normal life and not knowing the truth about her heritage or the roots from which she came.
That all changes the day a handsome stranger named Nathan walks into her life. Will the ancient secrets he holds be enough to earn her trust? Is it the Light, or does Darkness await them beyond The Northern Gate?

Excerpt:

The thick bonds ate into the prisoner’s pale, filthy skin, and it bled against the steel. He was numb to the pain now. Instead of letting the misery cripple him, he smiled with a dark grimace and channeled the biting sting into anger. Knowing they thought he was weakening, though he was far from it, he had bided his time. With each new moon, he had grown stronger; he was fighting back. The prisoner was going against what was in his blood by nature; he was resisting what his father had given him, the tainted blood.
For centuries, maybe even longer, he’d been held in that small cell, not being fed except when his captors saw fit, and he’d spoken to no one. His jailers refused to even breathe near him, let alone converse. All he’d had to occupy his time were his thoughts and the constant, slow trickle of water seeping down the damp walls of his underground prison to pool at his feet.
Soon, the time would come when he would be free of the tomb in which he’d been encased, and he would be a person of freewill once again; he would make sure of it. So very soon.
The prisoner planned to ensure he would hear, and remember, the sounds of his captors’ deaths: every bone crushed would be a manacle opening and the sound of tearing flesh, a choir of the Seraphim.
His freedom was paramount if he were to accomplish the job he’d been given so many millennia ago. He would end the vicious circle of chaos and fear his world had been turned into.
Every mark and scar on his body would serve as reminders of what he had been birthed to do, willing him to follow his destiny. A course had been set for him to walk the earth to complete his mission: to find her. His goal was to hunt her down and tell her everything that had been kept from her: who she was, who she belonged to, and where she came from.
He would become her protector.
Would fight for her.
Live for her.
And die—for her.

RAISING THE ROOF- XOSHA STYLE!!

So here's some homework this weekend! Think up a place that does not exist. Let your imagination go wild!! I am certain that no matter how much you imagine, you will never imagine a world as vivid and detailed as this!!!

This book I am about to tell you about is a short, entertaining prequel. It's sets the scene for the first full-length novel in the Legend of Xosha series.

If you love dragons, demons and inventive new creatures with little to no adult bullshit, then this is for you!! I personally think it is refreshing and great change from what I normally read. Let's face it. We all need to feel like kids again once in a while!

SYNOPSIS:

A tale of epic proportions.

The Rise of Xosha tells the tale of Xosha's beginnings.

Where Anjyls are mortal pawns,

Dragons rule the skies,

Wolves and elves roam the forests, and demons lurk below the surface.

Oceanus, the leader of the last horde of dragons in the realms must find his people a new home.

Going only on the word of the odd colored white dragon, Rose, he leads the horde far from their home, over waters that seem to have no end.

Pyre, Oceanus' younger, rebellious brother must come to terms with the fact that Oceanus will never see him as anything more than a welp too young to be of any use.

Jade the youngest of the three has her own thoughts and inner demons to contend with.

Then there's Rose, The dragon with an amazing gift no one will acknowledge. The outcast of her people simply because she's the only one of her color.

Will these four ever come to terms with why they had to leave their home?

And what strange new beings will they encounter in their new territory?

Find out when you read The Rise of Xosha; The story that started the legend.

One to lead...One to see...One to protect...One to Deceive.
The Rise of Xosha; The story that started the legend.

"not all allies are friends, not all friends are true, and some enemies will in turn be your greatest allies."

***ADVISORY***

This book contains mild to moderate violence, the concept of death, insinuated sexual contact... Not Recommended for Readers under the age of 16.

WET YOUR APPETITE!!

Excerpt # 1

Obsidian's reverie was cut short as she realized her own grave error. “Pyre watch out!” She yelled.
Pyre snapped his head in the direction of Obsidian's frantic yell, but indeed he had been too late. A flurry of white feathers slammed into his right flank sending him spiraling out of the sky.
His talons ripped into the side of the feathered beast, which returned the gesture in kind as their forms, a ball of red scale and white feather continued their less than graceful dive.
“This ends now dragon!” the feathered one hissed in a feminine voice as her talons dug into Pyre's flank.
Pyre growled low in his throat as he finally shook the Anjyl off. “Why are you doing this?! Your kind and mine are practically cousins. Why turn on us like this?”
A laugh akin to the tinkling of bells left the feathered dragon, her gray depths burned into the dragon's with malice.
“Your kind is thorn in our sides. We cannot fully control the 'God' fearing creatures with you around.”
Pyre had heard enough, he flew at the Anjyl and gripped her left wing in with his front taloned paws, his back ones came to land on the feathered female's underside where his talons dug deeply in. His back legs gave a sharp kick outward as his front legs pulled the wing toward his own body.
The Anjyl's eyes widened. Her sleek feathered head shook vigorously back and forth causing the thick standalone whiskers on either side of her muzzle to dance in the wind. Then, she gave out of a blood curdling screech of pain as the sound of popping bone, tissue, and feathered flesh broke through the howl of the rushing wind.
A smirk crossed Pyre's maw as he released the now useless wing. “Your kind will never be better than us Anjyl. If you survive, tell your Oni we will not fall prey to you... Hunt us again and it will be the Anjyl's that become the prey!”
He kicked out once more letting his wings unfurl to catch the upward current of the wind. His talons mucked with feathers, flesh, and gore, he gave a shrug knowing he had wasted his breath. Even as he watched, his wings giving the occasional flap to keep himself aloft, The Anjyl was falling. When she hit the water head first and did not resurface he knew it had been an wasted effort.
Above him, where the rest of the fighting sectors of the horde were, he heard growls and the clash of talons. Angling himself he began his ascent back to his brother's side, dodging the many breaths of acid, and the falling of Anjyls.
“I'm glad you're okay Pyre.” Oceanus grunted as Pyre came up beside him.
Pyre latched his maw on the neck of the large Anjyl male that was trying very much in vain to knock Oceanus from the sky. “I told you I can take care of myself.” Was the muffled reply as the male went limp in Pyre's jaw.
Pyre let the Anjyl drop to join his kin in the bottom of the ocean. Pyre's amber depths noted the purple hue to the once blue water and had to wonder to himself if it would ever return to normal after this fight.
As the last Anjyl fell to its final resting place, Oceanus let out a strong bellow. The children, Rose, and the others lifted from the small island to rejoin the ranks of the horde. Oceanus knew the browns were a bit miffed at being left out of the fight, He also knew that Rose's Xosha required every brown dragon there to be found.
“We no longer have time and distance on our side. I'm sure that horde were not the only ones. Their leader was not among their numbers. We must make haste to our new home now. We cannot afford another battle. Many of you are injured now and the will to carry on is diminished, but you must continue forward! We all seek the freedom and peace of Rose's Xosha, we must stay together to achieve it!” Oceanus' voice was strong, though as he looked over his small band of dragons his heart grew heavy. They had lost at least three in that fight., they could not afford to lose any more.

Excerpt #2

“They said alliances are needed but to remember that not all who claim to be our allies really are.” Rose replied.
Pyre cut in right after Rose stopped talking. “They also hinted that we have an enemy in the horde.”
Oceanus’ eyes shot open as large and round as discs. “What?!”
Rose shot a glare at Pyre. “Pyre!”
“He needed to know Rose!” Pyre shot back in defense.
“I know he did and I was going to tell him. Just not like this. I wanted to speak more with them on this before bringing it up.” Rose said softly, wondering if her words made any sense to them. From the way they were looking at her, she would guess not.
“I mean. What if they’re wrong? It’s possible you know they’ve been wrong before!” Rose said desperately as Oceanus growled.
Pyre spoke up, voicing Oceanus’ exact thoughts. “They’ve never been wrong Rose. Not once! Maybe you’re the enemy they spoke about.”
“They have been wrong! I only tell you what’s important to the horde! I don’t tell you everything they tell me!” Rose said as her own anger began to build. She was really getting fed up with everyone automatically assuming things concerning her.
Pyre shoved her. His heart cried out as he reverted to his once natural treatment of the dragon he only minutes before had considered his friend. “What have they lied about then Rose?”
Losing the current, she spiraled toward Caprae. She caught a new current right before she would have slammed quite ungracefully into the ground. “They said someone would love me for me! They said I wouldn’t be an outcast once we found Caprae. And for a little while I thought maybe they were right about that too. But they weren’t they were wrong!” She turned and flew off refusing to let the two males see her cry.
“Rose, wait!” Pyre called out trying to fly after her. As her form turned into a spec on the horizon, he stopped with a sigh and hung his head. “I’m sorry…” He muttered as he silently cursed himself for his stupidity.

Excerpt # 3

Pyre was ready to call it quits. He foresaw no end to the desert and was not only tired but starving. Reaper warned them from the start that stopping even for a few minutes out here would mean death.
Pyre tried to lift his leg to step in vain, and soon felt himself crash, exhausted in the sand. The others heard the thud over the swirling winds and stopped each turning around.
“Pyre you have to get up. We’re almost out of here!” Oceanus yelled, Panic laced in his words.
It’s too late for him. We have to keep moving! Reaper growled to the large blue dragon.
“I’m not leaving him behind wolf! He’s my brother I can’t leave him!” Oceanus hissed to the wolf alpha.
The ground behind Pyre began to rumble. The vibration trailing over to Oceanus and the wolves. They all looked down between their feet, then to Pyre, then to the large sand dune forming behind him. Shocked horror masked on all their faces.
We have to move now or we’re all dead! Reaper barked. Behind him, the four scouts began to shift their weight from paw to paw nervously as they whined.
“I am not leaving Pyre…” Oceanus started. His words abruptly cut off by an earsplitting clacking sound.
Behind Pyre, stood a scorpion as large as a small dragon. It’s deadly tail dripping green poison.
“What in the nine hells is that?!” Oceanus fumbled for words as his gaze fell on the creature.
One of the many reasons I told you not to lift the mountain. That’s a pet of the demons of Shai’Pyre. If it’s tail even grazes you, it’s death. Reaper explained as he and the other wolves backed up slowly.
I hear the meat under the shell is to die for. The snarky female scout commented.
The scorpion had spotted Pyre’s prone form and poised its tail to strike.

 AUTHOR BIO

Tina Traverse fell in love with writing at the age of eight when she wrote her version of the bible story, The Good Samaritan, for a homework assignment.
This love grew into a passionate affair and has been ongoing for thirty years; and there are no signs of it waning.
Though, she admits, when she was pregnant with her son Christian, the affair cooled.
Tina’s desire to write came calling once again when she needed to find a way to cope with heartbreaking news.
Christian was diagnosed with autism in 2010.
Her method of coping was to write a story about his journey called Forever, Christian.
Tina likes to joke that a girl can only write about real life for so long without jumping back into the world of make believe.
She loves to venture into the world of the supernatural; vampires and witches are her favourite!
Tina enjoys all sorts of vampires but admits that she is fascinated with the modern romantic vampire (think Twilight and The Vampire Diaries).
She is currently working on a vampire series based on her first published book, Destiny of The Vampire and has other projects in the works.
When Tina is not at the computer creating her exciting, magical worlds, she is kept on her toes by her two sons, Christian and Brandon.
Sometimes the author manages to curl up in her favourite chair with a good book.

ENGLAND Goes eXPpress???

TECHNICALLY THAT IS NOT ENTIRELY CORRECT. THE BOOK I AM FEATURING FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS IS CALLED NGLND XPX.

WHAT DOES THAT STAND FOR? NOT A F&%#@ CLUE!! BUT LET ME TELL YOU THIS... READ ON! YOU WILL WANT TO BUY THIS BOOK JUST AS MUCH AS I WANT TO. I CAN KICK MYSELF FOR NOT BUYING THIS BEFORE!!

HERE IS WHY...

Please prepare to be grabbed by the ankle and dragged screaming into a world of funny and not so funny scifi-ish fiction, a soupcon of some dashed fine adventure and a spot of Ealing-esque farce.

Rub shoulders with small robots carrying teddy bears and issuing tablets of Commandments to chaps wandering out of the desert. Squirm in a grandstand seat during an Industrial Revolution completely re-written just to see the new-fangled steam trains running over well-intentioned children (no real harm done). Recognise your neighbours - polite English zombies coping with the dystopian hell of a socialist victory in the General Election. Man up, madam, and do your OAP National Service during the pensioner wars with an insect species. Watch in awe and not some little discomfort as Queen Elizabeth does the dishes for Europe and the Ministry of Defence quietly saves the world from a rogue comet.

No caricature is left unused and the science in the fiction is quite splendidly silly. This is a book to be read with tongue in cheek, preferably your own tongue and one of your own face cheeks unless you are very limber. The characters are as deep as summer puddles and the plots are as complicated as two planks of similarly-sized wood. Reality leaves the room on page one and farce enters just one chapter later. As literary feasts go this book is a paper bag of mint humbugs. It is the most fun that you can have with a librarian in the room without getting your ticket suspended.

The title NGLND XPX is a "text message" nod to Admiral Nelson’s splendidly rousing signal, sent just as a bit of a rumble that we now call The Battle of Trafalgar was about to begin in 1805 - ‘England expects that every man will do his duty.’ Admiral Nelson appears nowhere in this book.

BUT WAIT!! THERE'S SO MUCH MORE!!! THESE REVIEWS REALLY GRABBED ME BY THE ...(what do women have instead of nuts?)

5.0 out of 5 stars A delicious gathering of short stories to fill an evening with humor and fanciful explorations.

By Janice Wagar

I absolutely love Ian Hutson's lively, whimsical prose! His layered stories are entertaining on many different levels. While the concepts he explores are light-hearted, the underlying implications are often a commentary on the foibles of human nature.

His boundless imagination and wonderful facility for language are a real delight! This is a book to savor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun!

By Chris Graham

For an adventure into the wonderfully colourful and no holds barred world of British Satire and Farce type humour, this is the book you've been waiting for.

Paddle in the gentle sea of words lapping around your mind, swim strongly through the surfers waves of words as they build to a crescendo and run desperately to keep just ahead of the tsunami of words in case they engulf you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment

By ChristophFischerBooks TOP 500 REVIEWER

"NGLND XPX" by Ian Hutson is a very entertaining collection of humorous short stories, some absurd and off the wall, others more satirical and tongue in cheek.

The subjects of the stories range from science fiction and futuristic ideas to more traditional British and political themes.

As a non-British person living in the UK much of the stories that were rooted in persiflage and caricature of the contemporary Britain were particularly funny for me but even if you do not know who Boris or Blair are, you will be able to appreciate the jokes and ideas behind the stories.

Immigration and the future of humanity are some of the more serious subjects, Androids and Zombies are fleshing out the collection of original scenarios and ideas with some very cleverly written puns.

This is very enjoyable and a pleasant way to spend a few hours. It is non-offensive and easy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly delicious!

By Aaron David

Ian Hutson should be sectioned under the mental health act... as soon as he publishes his 60th book. His imagination is a wonderful place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Ian's passionate love of the English language leaps out at from his writing. He builds a king size bed of words and wraps the reader in a luxurious literary duvet. A word of caution; allow plenty of time to read, his 'short' stories are epics. You don't want to have to stop reading half-way through.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: PLEASE CHECK OUT....

THE BLURB BY THE HILARIOUS IAN HUTSON!

Blathering nonsense if you ask me but what would I know? I just wrote it. Ten short stories mixing science fiction (risible science) with humour (Ealing Studios variety, farce and word-play). Queen Victoria and Sir Richard Branson kick off the re-imagined, steam-train laden Industrial Revolution with a game of cards and a dance (while the Railway Children get flattened). A small planetary plant survey robot called iG-0-D accidentally meets a Mr Moses in the Lake District desert region and issues a few Commandments. Her Majesty’s government replaces the Old Age Pension with National Service and sends the dribblies off into space to fight the bugs. That sort of thing. The titles give more of a clue:

The Model-T Virgin.
Begging your pardon, my lord, but Cook’s been eaten again.
Robots knitting with rubber needles.
Je pense it’s all going very bien.
Footloose, en pas de basque.
iG-0-D
In which Mr Cadwallader shampoos his parrot in the rain using some very dated popular science.
Diary of a National Service chap.
Blood-curdling screams and the Whitworth screw-thread.
The Day the Earth took tea.

IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, AT LEAST READ THIS AUTHORS FASCINATING BIO!!!

THE AWESOME IAN HUTSON!!

I was born in the Croft Baker Maternity Home in Cleethorpes in nineteen-sixty. Fortunately, my mother was present at the event so it came as little surprise to the nursing staff. My father, a Grimsby deep-sea trawlerman radio-operator turned Ministry of Defence electronic warfare expert immediately took me out onto the roof, held me aloft and presented me to the waiting throng. There was a bit of a fuss of course so we all moved to Hong Kong to listen in on the dastardly communist mainland Chinese military radio traffic, and to enjoy the worst typhoon of the century (Wanda), the worst drought of the century (four hours of tap water every fourth day) and the worst cholera epidemic (no details for reasons of social propriety). Growing up spending not some little time in the company of the servants I spoke only Cantonese and a very little pidgin English.

The family bounced around for a bit as you do, on the run and then landed up on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, here to listen in to and jam the dastardly Cold War military signals of the communist U.S.S.R. Occasionally dad got it wrong and jammed television signals on the whole island, blaming the black-outs on the Russians of course. We lived on a couple of crofts in houses without mains water or bathrooms - and one with only one room that had the “electricity”. My sister and I fought for survival as the only sassenachs in the local schools and we kept pets - four cats, one Welsh collie and two sheep. I finally learned to read and write aged nine, in a place called the Nicolson Institute where the tawse (leather strap) was still used for student encouragement.

We wandered around England for a few years while dad worked on the nuclear V-Bombers at various RAF stations. For one year while waiting for a house to be built we lived in a friend’s open-to-the-public zoo - Banham Zoo, in Norfolk. I got to skive off school for the entire year and our shack was between the bear pit, the penguin pools and the monkey house. I used to go to sleep at night to the sound of the howler monkeys and gibbons calling and wake up to the sound of the zoo’s mascot giant turkey trying to batter the door down.

Did a bit of studying for a Bachelors in Operational Research Systems Analysis with some Maths and Physics thrown in, and then for a Masters in Industrial Relations (left-wing insurgency). Fell into the most incredibly dreary job in the British Civil Service for ten years, then fell from that into the most incredibly dreary jobs for some rotten multi-nationals. Highlights in all that time are limited to once getting one of the corporations fined a million and a half quid (nineteen-ninety-two prices), and once getting shot at while my car was stuck at traffic signals. Made my natural tendency towards biological redundancy official by taking voluntary redundancy and concentrated on running my own businesses.

Then the bottom of the world fell out and I hurtled like a motorised lemming into personal bankruptcy and a spot of standing to attention in front of a very sweet County Court lady Judge. Had the last laugh on the Official Receiver’s auctioneers though. They came to the house that I was about to lose which was twenty miles out in the countryside to load up my car with household valuables and drive them all off to auction - I siphoned everything out of the tank before they arrived, and they made it a mile back towards town before having to push... Tee et le hee eh?

I’ve been veggie since my teens, vegan for the past five years. I have an utter contempt for politicians - not a backbone or a moral to be found among them these days. I dislike the term “atheist” since I don’t lack religion; I simply don’t believe in other people’s peculiar god worship cults any more than I believe that the world is flat. Cats are alien, dogs are magnificent creatures, generally. Curry is the food of choice, water is the best drink there is and my favourite colour is blue, green, ruby red and faded tangerine. I’m too short-sighted to find my own specs unless I already have them on.

The W.I.P.

Working title - ‘Rupert Of The High Seas’. Involuntary time travel, pirates and action in a salty spray and a fog of landlubber confusion. A chap’s adventures as he attempts to stay alive and return to his own life without being too embarrassingly sea-sick or obviously out of his depth on the way.

FOLLOW THE HYSTERICAL GENIUS THAT IS IAN HUTSON!!!

I'M OFF TO BEG, BORROW OR BRIBE TO GET THIS BOOK! BAIL MONEY MIGHT BE REQUIRED, BUT I'LL MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOTIFIED IN CASE I NEED IT.
