About the Author

Elise Stokes lives with her husband and four children. She was an elementary school teacher before becoming a full-time mom. With a daughter in middle school and two in high school, Elise's understanding of the challenges facing girls in that age range inspired her to create a series that will motivate girls to value individualism, courage, integrity, and intelligence. The stories in Cassidy Jones Adventures are fun and relatable, and a bit edgy without taking the reader uncomfortably out of bounds. Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula, Cassidy Jones and Vulcan's Gift, and Cassidy Jones and the Seventh Attendant are the first three books in the series. Book Four, Cassidy Jones and the Luminous, will be released in 2014.

"Brimful of danger, secrets, a bit of romance and fun, this debut author's entertaining plot and well-drawn characters not only is all it promises to be, but will leave readers looking for more.." -- Gail Welborn, Examiner

"Elise Stokes ranks up there with other YA masterminds!" -- Kitty Bullard, Great Minds Think Aloud

"Can I vote now for a movie on this series? With the adventure, the mystery and Cassidy's super powers, Elise Stokes has delivered everything that a young reader could hope for." --Stephanie Laymon, Five Alarm Book Reviews

Chapter Nine: A New Friend
Summary: Cassidy takes Emery into her confidence.

We sat on opposite benches, our knees a foot apart.
Emery watched me curiously while I considered
how to start. I resorted to small talk.

“Uh, Emery, so where do you live?”

“We rent a condo near Wallingford,” he answered
patiently, making no attempt to elaborate.

“Oh.” I touched my forehead. “Were you born in

“No, Washington, D.C.” Placing his forearms on
his knees, he leaned forward. “How did you hurt your

I dropped my hand. “Funny. That’s what I want to
talk to you about.”

Intently looking at my face, he waited for me to

I touched my nose. “Before yesterday, I had freckles.
They were light, but they were there.”

Narrowing his eyes on my nose, he attempted to

Taking a deep breath, I continued, “Sorry, that didn’t
make any sense. Let me put it this way—I had freckles
when I went to your mom’s lab with my dad.”

His expression became so intense, frightening
almost, that I hesitated. My feelings about him were
conflicted. He made me uneasy. Everything about him
was so foreign.

Emery’s voice took on a soothing tone. “I understand
that you injured your head in my mom’s lab. Please, tell
me how. You can trust me. I want to help you.”

I searched his eyes. It was difficult to penetrate
through the blackness, adding to my unease. “I don’t
think you can.”

Impulsively, or maybe intentionally, he grabbed
my hand, holding it between his. “Please, tell me,” he

I took another deep, tortured breath. “Your mom
had something cooking in beakers on that Bunsen
burner near the coffeemaker. While Dad interviewed
her, I sat on a stool next to them. The stool collapsed
and I fell, knocking everything over onto the table.
When the liquids ran together, they formed this white
cloud, and I breathed it in. It’s difficult to explain exactly
what happened. My whole body felt like it was on fire,
melting from the inside, and then everything went
black. I guess I passed out or something. Afterward, I

Today it's my pleasure to present to you Beginning Anew (The Naomi Chronicles Book 1) by Author Paula Rose Michelson!

There is soooo much to tell you, so let's get started!

Naomi and Chaz know that miracles really do happen for at a friend’s wedding they reaffirmed their love and are Beginning Anew! Yet there are consequences that the couple must face. Will Chaz love and protect his wife? Will Naomi learn to trust Chaz? Find out in the first novel of Paula Rose Michelson’s four-book saga The Naomi Chronicles.

Previously, in Book 2 of Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing Naomi’s journey from pain to faith where she dealt with her husband’s rejection of her, and Chaz discovered that secrets were kept from him, and began his own journey of discovery enthralled readers. While their friends planned to use Nicco and Lucinda’s wedding to bring Chaz and Naomi together again, God had his hand on this star-crossed couple.

Before that, in Book 1 of Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing let readers experience Naomi’s journey from adolescence to womanhood, from frightened isolation to heiress with a mission and responsibility many would shirk placed upon her shoulders and kept them guessing especially when they realized that Naomi guarded two secrets. When Naomi married and fell in love with Chaz, she decided to tell him about herself. Before she could, Lola, a teenager she rescued from immigration, revealed her secrets. Hearing Chaz’s hate-filled words, and seeing many in Spanish Harlem turn away from her, Naomi fled.

This 5* review from Allison Kohn says, “Each book is better than the one before - and I wouldn't have thought it was possible. Every Christian needs to read these novels, because they are not just a beautiful love story, they are full of information we, as children of the living God, need to understand about other family members, and what better way to get that information then in three lovely romance books. More than romance - real love.

This is one of the paragraphs from the first book of The Naomi Chronicles: “Looking at her husband with unrestrained joy, Naomi nodded. ‘Please do not misunderstand me; I was content to go on as I had. Then you came along and turned my life from one of unknown waiting to an accompaniment, where each of us supports and enhances the other. Like a duet, where one takes the major keys and the other takes the minor keys.””

As you read, be still and let your soul sway to the music of their song. Paula Rose is God’s gift to His family and this woman’s writing is her gift to us. A gift should never be rejected, especially when it is from God and our sister both.”

Rhonda Nash-Hall’s 5 * Review of Beginning Anew says, “Wow, I am stunned at the bravery and courage I just experienced in reading The Naomi Chronicles--Book One--Beginning Anew. It is magnificent! I had so many questions which formed and were not answered as I read the Casa de Naomi books. I feel like (this book) brought closure to all of my questions about Naomi and her past and the history of the Jewish people. What a beautiful testimony of God's love and guidance! I personally feel that it was my favorite of the entire series! It seemed to truly get at the heart of the characters. It also left me wanting to know more about Chaz and Naomi.....I want them to have children and be happy and grow old together. I feel that Naomi has missed so much and deserves to live a joyful and abundant life was denied her in the past!!

Vonnee Lee’s (author Y.I Lee) 5* review says, “This book covers the first week of the newlyweds story who have now recommitted to each other after their fall out in the Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing Book two. As with the authors other books this story well written with a poetic quality that draws the reader in. I enjoyed the book very much. The author gives great depth to all the characters especially Chaz who in the last book discovered he was a Jew and is now shocked at the change of attitude towards him by those who were once his friends. Although I didn’t like her in the other books, Lola is there again and what happens to her in this book comes as quite a shock, and made me feel more sympathetic towards her. I certainly understood Naomi’s anger when Chaz informed her that Lola was coming back to stay with them, as no one else would take her in. But without giving away a spoiler…Lola becomes good!

I was given a copy of ‘The Naomi Chronicles: Book one’ to read, in exchange for an honest review.”

Paula Rose Michelson is the wife of Lutheran Pastor, and Chosen People field Missionary, Ron Michelson. This Messianic author of faith books founded LAMB Ministries, which helps women recover from trauma and abuse through the effective use of Scripture and prayer. She asked God to give her a unique work, and while praying about the lost tribes of Israel, she believed the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) called her to write about the hidden Jews. She wrote the Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing and The Naomi Chronicles Books because of her heart response to that commission.

Finished cleaning up from their meal, Chaz asked, “Now about the suite and our casita, we have much to do. Where do you want to start?”
“Let us shop for the things we need to get and then pack up Vida’s things as you suggested.”
“Good.” Chaz dialed the cab company and requested a cab. “They said a cab will be here in minutes.” As he hurried Naomi hurried outside, she grabbed her purse.
They sat on the porch swing. She nestled in his arms and smiled as she gazed at the garden. “It is the oddest thing, but everything is suddenly in bloom.”
“I thought that myself. Although I spent most of my time in Texas, if I am not
mistaken, nothing blooms to its fullest in the heat of summer.”
“You are right. By now many of the flowers are usually wilted or brown.”
He pulled her close. “It would be a sorry sight indeed for others to never experience seeing something lovely bloom out of season.”
Turning towards him, she saw him wink at her. “Are you alluding to something I should know?”
He kissed her. “I told you that day at the park, I am witnessing a miracle for you are blooming out of season.”
Sighing with pleasure, she smiled. “If that is true, it is because your love, which was once a promise, is becoming a reality.”
“Mi amado… my beloved, it is true, all of it is true.”
The cab pulled up. “Chaz, can we afford to be so extravagant?”
“Naomi, you know I called them.”
“Well yes, but…”
“If this is being extravagant, than let us be that way when we are out together, especially since everything you have and all you told me speaks of a woman who has always been frugal.”
“That is true. I always worried that what the adult niñas gave would not be enough to help me rescue and keep girls, so I never touched the estate. As I told you before, I made a promise to Madre Vida to carry on as she did before me.”
“I understand,” he told her as they got into the cab. “Now your life has changed and with it, I believe, your priorities.”
“Yes.” I would gladly follow you anywhere, she thought. Startled by what her heart knew was true, Naomi changed the subject by saying, “We can get the things for the big house and take care of our casita next week.”

We all have secrets and we all love learning about new secrets. Let me enlighten you with this best kept secret....until now that is.

Disillusioned with the direction her life is going, Marsha Taylor wants to get away, to find out what’s left of her dreams. Picking up a hitchhiker along the way wasn’t her intention, but Jessie, a woman with troubles of her own, is hard to resist.

A mishap on the road forces them to make a stop in a small town called Diamond Lake. Residents are on edge since a brutal murder happened in the area not long ago. Everyone has their secrets…some of them are deadly.

I love the Thelma and Louise spin this book has, but you will need to read this book to see how it ends! It is not what you expect! It's a secret!!! Here's some reviews to wet your appetite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Secrets--and then some!
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed Secrets the most of all of Ms. Winkes' books that I've read. I loved all of the twists and turns and the slow reveal of everyone's backgrounds. I like detectives and other main characters who have brains and actually use them, as the "good" ones do in "Secrets." Using their own thoughts/words to inform the reader was very effective for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars No secret this is a great read.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I liked the way the book slowly built up to the end especially the way it switched from character to character at the conclusion. Mystery, suspense, romance, and just an enjoyable read.
