Book Excerpts Lover, Divine
EXCERPT #1
“If I asked you to be my lover, would you?” Liam inquired, changing the subject completely.
I stared at him as if he were mad. “No!”
“Why not?” He actually had the audacity to look surprised.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “On top of the fact tha’ I jus' met you and you stole principal from me today? Besides, you belong to Aphrodite.” And nobody with brains purposely ticked off the ever-vengeful goddess of Love. Her jealousy and wrath was almost as legendary as Hera, the Queen of the gods.
“Jealous, Siobhan Law?”
“Definitely not! I actually pity her and can’t understand why she’d want you as a lover. I’m sure she regrets it every time she sees your face.”
Liam laughed. “She feels a lot of things when she sees me, but regret is not one of them.”

EXCERPT #2
Conor exited the car as soon as he spotted us approaching. Within seconds, he was opening my door and waiting for me to climb inside.
“Ready to whisk her away even before I’ve had a chance to kiss her goodbye, Conor?” Liam said, handing the driver my violin case. He set his on the ground by our feet.
I saw Conor’s cheeks redden and it wasn’t from the cold. “Apologies. I’ll jus’ wait in the car then.”
“I’ll only be a minute,” I said, knowing I was blushing, too.
He studied us for a minute, then said, “O’ course, miss.”
Liam swept me into his arms the moment Conor’s door closed. My arms immediately wrapped around his neck, and nothing more needed to be said.
Liam slanted his mouth over mine and brought our lips together. At first, he was gentle. Our lips performed a slow rumba that was as intense as it was tender. His tongue was like a tease, begging for permission but not daring to enter even when permission was given. This went on for a minute or two, until I could hardly stand it another second and moaned out of frustration.
“Wha’ are you waitin’ for, Liam?” I whined against his mouth. He chuckled, but he understood what I wanted and he gave it to me.
The feel of Liam’s tongue sliding over mine was like an orgasm in itself. My brain shorted out and all I could do was just stand there and take all that he was giving me. He didn’t just kiss me either. He conquered me, took my freedom by force. The way his hands caressed my hips said he was my ruler now and submission was my only option. His blue eyes bore into mine, heightening the experience while his lips tried to persuade me to accept his invitation and spend the night with him. It would be worth it, his soft lips said. The best night of your life, his hands agreed. I moaned in anticipation and felt Liam’s arms enclose around me.
But just as I fell forever in love with Liam’s kiss, he pulled away.

EXCERPT #3
“Your ass looks fantastic wrapped in black.”
I fumbled the book in my hand and pivoted to find Apollo perched on the corner of the desk across the library as those blazing blue eyes of his stared me down. He looked delicious dressed in true divine garb–a black leather cuirass, leather trousers and boots–and biting the inside of my cheek was all I could do to keep myself from drooling. His displayed muscles were olive and toned and I wanted to touch and grab and run my hands all over them. But I stayed right where I was. I didn’t trust myself to stop at touching.
“My lord,” I breathed, now clutching the book to my chest. I ran a hand over my black skirt. “Wha’ are you doing here?”
“You have to ask?” his ancient voice rumbled as his eyes ran over the entire length of my body.
“How did you get in?”
A sexy, black eyebrow raised.
“I mean, how did you get in without me knowin’? I didn’ see a flash. Why do you flash sometimes and other times not?”
Apollo waved his hand in the direction of the doors and I heard the lock click into place. He stood and began to slowly prowl toward me. “Gods flash because we’re vain and we like to make an entrance. But we don’t have to. We don’t have to do anything we don’t want to do.”
Suddenly, he was right in front of me. I almost screamed.
“Don’t do tha’!” I said, sucking in a deep breath as Apollo pried the book from my hands and placed it on the shelf behind me.
“Don’t do what? This?” His arms were around my waist and he was kissing me within half a heartbeat.
I just couldn’t resist the man. His kiss was like an oasis after I had been dragging half dead through an arid wasteland. I gulped him down and I still couldn’t get enough. For this man, this god, I would always be parched.

WE ARE DISMANTLING EVAN TODAY

Title: Dismantling Evan

Author: Venessa Kimball

Genre: YA/Teen/Contemporary/Fiction/Romance

Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

Blurb:

Life is unstable...
…What will be the trigger to dismantle it?
When high school senior Evangeline "Evan" Phillips moves half way across the country
with her parents to a quaint town in Texas, it should be a chance to start over.
It should be.
Typical of Evan, she doesn’t share her parents’ optimism. Always the loner, she is
prepared to hide behind work at the school newspaper until graduation. That is the
seemingly bulletproof plan until she meets her new neighbors, Gavin and Brody
Ferguson. The more Evan gets to know her neighbors, their band of friends, and frenemies,
the more unsettling her new high school and community gets in Braxton Springs,
Texas. As Evan unwittingly digs deeper into the lives of those around her, her own skeletons
begin to surface leaving her vulnerable and scrambling to keep her own sanity and reputation.
Will Evan be able to get control over her spiraling secrets while discovering friendship and love
for the first time?

Or will the issues and pressures of life as a band of not-so-average teens in a very typical
high school become too much, resulting in the tragic dismantlement of an entire community
and Evan herself?
Dismantling Evan is a fresh and edgy work of literary fiction that snapshots how life as a teen
in modern society can be unstable and the social issues and pressures revolving around them
can tip the fleeting stability of society over the edge.

Excerpt: (Prologue)

I peer out the small, shattered multi-faceted glass window. The fractured sun shines through, striking the origami swan he left for me. It isn't enough sunlight to warm my chilled bones. The space around me is simple; wooden bench, wooden table top, two cabinets, a light switch.
The countertop is wiped clean of all things except one singular item; evidence of Gavin's life, Brody's, my parents, my friends....my life. His loose-paper, neatly typed journal entries and photo paper lives are captured and stacked in a grey folder I hold tightly against my chest.
The wind blows outside the workshed, slipping through the porous cracks and crevices of the wooden slats. I want to hush it, make everything around me still, so I can think, but it doesn't matter if the sound exists really because there is no one to disturb; other than me.
This shed, even though it is mostly new, has witnessed so much. At least it was saved from seeing what happened to us outside its walls weeks ago.
I relax my grip on the folder, place it on the countertop and sit on a stool in front of it. My fingers play across the hand-written quote - “Not all who wander are lost.”1 Tolkien's words.
I smile thinking of how fitting it was that Gavin had chosen those words in particular. Everything it held... his family, flawed and breaking apart, his friends, his favorite quotes, his torturers, and the illness that tortured him even more... this journal held it all and the quote suits it. The journal is a testament to his battle - fighting to understand everyone around him, everything around him, and most of all fighting to understand himself.
It so happens I was fighting at the same time; he fought differently, but I couldn't prevent getting wrapped up in the breakdown of it all; the dismantlement.
The sound of the gun, the yelling and screaming, the sirens, the deputy's walkie talkie static prominent in my ears even now. The flashing lights and all the cries...they haunt me still; an echo below the surface of truesolid sound.
An echo of life as I knew it a few short weeks ago.

She chuckles. “Like what you see?” She smirks at him, daunting him. The little vixen can come out and play when she wants and he is enjoying this side of the sexy Gracelynn.
He decides to play dirty himself. “Want to see how happy I am to see you?” He smirks back at her. “Let’s make a wager, shall we?” he asks competitively.
She grins at him. She intently twirls a strand of her hair that she left down by her face between her fingers, licks her lips and stares at him. She looks him up and down, making him even more drawn to her.
He gulps. The damn vixen knows how to play dirty.
“Well, what is the wager? Because if it is staring at each other all night, I could do that and then some.”

With a murderer on the loose, Elsa’s fate in jeopardy, and a traitor plotting against the king, Dentin finds his priorities shifting in an unexpected direction.

A smattering of raindrops cut my ruminations short. I studied the angry gray clouds just as thunder rumbled. I decided running for the keep would be better than waiting the storm out in the shelter of the maze tower. I gathered my skirts up and ran for the opening in the nearest hedge. Even running so hard my lungs burned and my legs ached, the downpour beat me to the shelter of the vargar keep.

Normally safe footing became treacherous in the sudden rush of water. Puddles and slick slate pavers slowed me more. Once gaining the half-open undercroft door, I plunged into the underbelly of the castle and pushed the heavy door closed behind me. Not bothering to check the corridor, I began wringing out my heavy rain-soaked skirt.

“Greetings, Lady Elsa?”

I jumped. It took all of my control not to cry out in surprise at the sound of the male voice. I lifted my head to find Lord Dentin standing not three feet away. He looked like he had just returned from a swim. Water coursed down his face and dripped from his clothes into a growing puddle on the stone floor. A partially dry wool blanket draped his shoulders. His hair, black with moisture, stuck out from his head at odd angles as though he had paused mid rub.

Yet, his eyes were bright and a twitch pulled at his mouth. “It is good to know I wasn't the only one caught in the sudden downpour.”

Suddenly realizing I was holding my dress up and exposing quite a bit of leg, I dropped my skirts. The slap of them hitting the wet floor echoed down the corridor. I flinched.

His eyebrows rose and an actual smile pulled at his mouth. It took years off his face, revealing the remnants of the mischievous rascal he must have been in boyhood.

“Don’t look so frightened. I won’t tell on you.”

Anger gripped my chest and my chin rose instinctively. “I doubt my mother would care, my lord. She has grown calloused in her despair of me. I beg pardon. I didn't see you there.”

His smile disappeared and his expression grew thoughtful. “I am a bit hard to miss.”

“True, my lord. I need to proceed to my rooms now and change.”

“By all means. I would not wish you to grow ill. I anticipate an animated conversation at the evening meal.” He stepped back a bit, offering half the narrow hall for me to pass.

I gathered my skirts, keeping the edge just above the floor this time, and stepped through the gap. Then straightening my back and shoulders, I strode down the corridor to the servant’s staircase.

“Wait.”

I paused instinctively, but I didn't turn around. He approached, his boots making squelching sounds on the stone.

“Have this.” He wrapped the wool blanket around my shoulders without actually touching me. It smelled of smoke, rain, and dog, but his residual warmth radiated from it. The heat felt heavenly on my chilled skin. “You need it more than I do.”

Then before I could voice my gratitude, he strode toward the kitchen calling for someone named Reginald.

“Thank you,” I whispered. Clutching the fabric to me, I dropped the pretense of dignity and ran for the stairs. If I was caught in this state of dress, my mother would never let me out of her sight again.

RELEASE YOUR FILTHY DESIRE

Title: Filthy Desire
Author: Sebastian Ex
Cover Design: Book Covers by Design
 Release Date: March 4, 2015

Synopsis

My name is Matthew Weston. Don't call me anything else, because I won't respond. And if you think you can get away with whimpering ‘Matt’ while I have you tied to the bed, about to devour you, it'll end up being your loss.

Men like me don't talk about feelings. We just don't.

What men like me do is pound. I pound the asphalt with my running shoes on morning runs. I pound a punching bag in the gym until my knuckles bleed. And when I need a release, I find a beautiful woman sprawled out on her bed, eagerly waiting for my cock, and pound her into oblivion. Yeah, that's me. I don't have feelings, and I don't do love.

At least I didn't, until the night Ella walked into my office looking like a disgusting junky to interview for a position for The Onyx Club.

She was like no one I'd ever met before. She was timid, reserved, and quite plain with her mousy brown hair and dirty clothes. Ella also had a dark and haunted gleam in her eye. A secret, a past she was desperate to conceal.

And when she called me ‘Matt’ it didn't seem to bother me.

She came into my life and turned it upside down. The only question is, can I screw her out of my system, or will my filthy desire for her keep her by my side?
